2009 Wastewater Conference
Please mark your calendar to attend the 2009 Wastewater Conference January 13-15, 2009 at the Kellogg Center in Lansing Michigan. The conference registration deadline is December 26, 2008 and the form can be found here.
The Wastewater Conference once again will be offering continuing septic education classes this year.  In an ongoing effort to streamline the registration and attendance verification process, please note the following enrollment protocols.
            1.        Register for the Wastewater Conference, form can be found here.
2.       Enroll for the Continuing Septic Education classes by completing the form here.
The deadline for the above is December 26, 2008. Remember you must register/enroll for both the conference and the CSE classes to receive credit.  After December 26, 2008 a late fee of $10 will charged for both the WWC registration & CSE enrollment.
At the conference:
            1.       Pick up course attendance cards at MSTA Table prior to start of classes.
2.       AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH APPROVED CLASS: Attendees must do the following to receive credit. Failure to do so will result in loss of credit for the class.

                a.       Sign the sign-in sheet

                b.      On the course attendance cards fill in name of class, sign & drop in  provided receptacle.

3. Attendance Certificates will be emailed to members upon conclusion of conference. Members with out email will be able to pick certificates at end of day/conference.
PLEASE REVIEW CSE CLASS SCHEDULE FOUND HERE CAREFULLY AS NOT EVERY CLASS HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR CREDIT.

The cost of attendance verification and archiving the CSE credits for non-members has also been adjusted.  The cost is $40 for Tuesday, January 13 & Thursday January 15, $30 For Wednesday January 14 or $100 for all three days. If registering after December 26, 2008 both members and non-members will pay a $10 late fee.  Non-members have the option of joining MSTA at a prorated rate of $136 to enjoy all the benefits of membership, application can be found here.

The DEQ has expressed concern over the number of attendees leaving classes while they are still in session.  We are asking that everyone please stay in their seats unless it is an emergency. We would not want to see all attendees lose credit for any class due to the actions of a few. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Please contact Chanin Frank, MSTA Executive Officer, with any questions on the above, 989-773-6985 ext 258 or cfrank@i2k.com

CSE Program Update

Dear Members,

Because we can’t say it enough, thank you for being a member of the association. We appreciate your support and look forward to working with you for many years to come.

We have recently received an update from the DEQ in regards to the Continuing Septage Education Program. They have requested the individual hauler submit copies of all CSE credit earned by the responsible agent on file with the DEQ to their office.  Please do not submit the original copy to the DEQ, they only require a photo copy for their records. The DEQ will log the credits into their database and post them online to be reviewed for accuracy.  It is vitally important that each hauler comply as the thirty credit hour requirement for license renewal will be based on this information.  If the DEQ does not receive the needed credits by the hauler’s renewal date, the hauler may face an interruption in business while the situation is reviewed.  The renewal date for the majority of the haulers will be January 1, 2010 which means the DEQ must receive the CSE credits by March 31, 2010. For new haulers the renewal date is five years from the date on their septage haulers license. Please remember any credits earned above the thirty hour requirement will not carry over into the next five year renewal period. Basically, each licensed hauler will have to earn thirty credits for each five year renewal period.

As a MSTA member, all credits earned from attending MSTA hosted classes since 2006 are archived on our website, msta.biz, for easy retrieval. Simply log on using your user name and password, go to the Member Section, choose My CE Credits, follow the prompts and print off the needed credits. For members without email or internet access and non-members a paper copy was provided for each credit earned for each class attended. We mailed out user names and passwords  with the membership certificates in September to all members who renewed their dues. Members may also email Chanin at cfrank@i2k.com for their user name and password, please be sure to include the business name and the name of each person you are requesting the information for.  Please note that user name and passwords will not be given out over the phone.  The association will also not be mailing out copies of credits earned as these have already been provided at the time the class was held. Please use the following address when mailing in your CSE credits: MDEQ-WB, Septage Program, PO Box 30273, Lansing MI 48909-7773.

We strongly urge every member to start submitting their CSE credits to the DEQ as soon as possible to avoid any problems come January 2010 that could interrupt business.

Sincerely,

MSTA Board of Directors
